Burnout & Stress Therapy in Edinburgh & Online

For when "just resting" isn't fixing it.

Running on empty

You're doing everything you're supposed to — showing up, keeping going, holding it together for everyone else. But something's shifted. Rest doesn't restore you the way it used to. Things that used to feel manageable now feel like too much. You might feel flat, cynical, or strangely disconnected from work and people you usually care about.

Burnout isn't a character flaw, and it isn't about not trying hard enough. It's often the cost of trying too hard, for too long, without enough space to recover.

You're not lazy. You're depleted.

What burnout & stress therapy with me looks like

01 We start with what "running on empty" actually feels like for you 02 There's no productivity plan or five-step fix — burnout doesn't respond well to being "solved" 03 You set the pace — some weeks that means talking things through, others it means just being somewhere that isn't demanding anything of you 04 We look, without judgement, at the patterns that led here — overworking, over-giving, never quite switching off 05 Recovery isn't just rest. It's often rebuilding a relationship with yourself that isn't built entirely on what you produce

Some of the ways burnout and stress can show up

  • Exhaustion that doesn't lift with sleep or time off

  • Feeling numb, cynical, or disconnected from work you used to care about

  • Dread on Sunday evenings, or before your alarm goes off

  • Brain fog, forgetfulness, or trouble concentrating

  • Snapping at people you don't mean to, or feeling permanently on edge

  • Physical symptoms — headaches, tension, a racing heart, trouble sleeping

  • Feeling like you're failing, even though you're working harder than ever

Not sure if what you're feeling counts as "burnout" or just a rough patch? It doesn't need a label. Reach out and we can talk it through.

If the exhaustion comes with constant worry or panic, anxiety therapy in Edinburgh may be a closer fit. If perfectionism or people-pleasing is driving the overwork, self-esteem counselling looks at that side of it.

Burnout counselling and workplace stress support in Edinburgh

Workplace and work stress

A lot of what brings people to a workplace stress therapist in Edinburgh isn't one bad day — it's months of never quite switching off. Work stress counselling in Edinburgh looks at what's actually being asked of you, and what it's costing you to keep meeting it.

When it's burnout, not just stress

Burnout counselling in Edinburgh tends to start further down the line — after stress has run for so long that exhaustion, cynicism and numbness have set in. We'd work out which stage you're at, and what recovery realistically looks like from here.

What to expect

The free intro call

A free 20-minute call — by phone or video — to describe what "burnout" or "stress" means for you day to day, ask questions, and see if we're a good fit. No obligation.

Your first session

We'll look at what's been asked of you, for how long, and what — if anything — has been left over for you. There's no need to have the words for it yet.

Ongoing sessions

Sessions last 50 minutes, usually weekly to begin with. Many clients notice the exhaustion easing before the underlying patterns fully shift — we keep working at whatever pace is right for you.

When

I offer appointments during the week, including some evening slots — helpful if you're trying to fit this around a demanding job. Get in touch to discuss availability.

How much

Sessions are £65 for 50 minutes. To secure a regular weekly slot, block bookings are available — for example, 4 sessions for £260. A small number of reduced-rate spaces are available; please ask when you get in touch.

You don't have to wait until you can't function

Many people come to burnout therapy only once they've hit a wall — signed off work, or simply unable to keep going. You don't have to wait until it's that serious. Catching burnout earlier, before it becomes a full stop, often makes recovery quicker.

Therapy is not a crisis service. If you're feeling unsafe or in crisis, Samaritans are free to call any time on 116 123.

FAQs

Your questions, answered

Is this the same as an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)? +

No — I'm an independent, MBACP-registered therapist, not an EAP provider. Some clients use burnout therapy alongside an EAP; others come to me directly, in confidence, separate from their employer entirely.

Can therapy help if I can't just quit my job or cut back? +

Yes. We won't start from "the solution is to change your job" — for most people, that isn't realistic straightaway. We'll look at what's within your control right now, and build from there.

How is burnout different from just being tired? +

Ordinary tiredness usually lifts with rest. Burnout tends to sit underneath rest — you can sleep a full night and still wake up depleted. It often comes with a sense of dread, cynicism, or disconnection that plain tiredness doesn't.

Do you offer evening sessions for people who work full time? +

Yes, alongside daytime slots. Get in touch to discuss availability.

Is workplace stress something I should bring to therapy, or occupational health? +

Both can have a place. Occupational health looks at your fitness for work; therapy is a confidential space to process the stress itself and what it's costing you personally. Many clients use both.
