About Amber Fieldgate — Person-Centred Therapist in Edinburgh

❊ About Me

I know what it's like to feel like you should have it together by now

You're functioning. You're getting through the days. But underneath, something doesn't feel right — and you're not sure how much longer you can keep pretending it does. if that resonates, you're not alone. And you don't have to keep carrying it by yourself.

I became a therapist because I believe everyone deserves a space that's genuinely theirs — somewhere they can put down the weight, speak honestly, and be met without judgement. That belief shapes everything about how I work.

HOW I WORK

I work mostly from a person-centred approach, which means I believe you are the expert in your own life. My role is to offer a safe, non-judgmental space where you feel heard, accepted, and supported, just as you are. I trust that when you're met with empathy and respect, healing and change can happen naturally.

That said, no two people are the same, so I don’t work with a one-size-fits-all model. I’ll always tailor our work to what feels most helpful for you.

Sometimes I bring in psychodynamic thinking, gently exploring how early relationships or past experiences might still be shaping how you feel and relate today. This can help bring unconscious patterns into the light, where they can be understood and worked through with care.

I also use elements of "parts work" — tuning into the different parts of you that might show up in different moments. Maybe one part of you wants to move forward, while another feels stuck or scared. I’ll support you in getting to know these inner voices with curiosity and compassion.

I find this especially powerful when working with neurodivergent people — those who have often been made to feel like parts of them are too much, too sensitive, or not enough. If you've spent years masking or trying to fit in, therapy can be a space to gently unmask and reconnect with the parts of you that have been shamed, hidden, or dismissed. You don’t have to pretend here.

At the heart of my work is relationship — a therapeutic relationship that is kind, equal, and real. I’ll meet you wherever you’re at, and we’ll figure it out together, at your pace

What person-centred therapy means in practice

01

You decide what we talk about and when

02

Sessions are shaped around your life, not a standard protocol

03

You're seen as the expert on your own experience

04

Change happens because you find your own answers — not because I hand them to you

05

There's no pressure to be "making progress" on anyone else's timeline

My background and training

I completed my Master's in Counselling at the University of Edinburgh — one of the UK's leading programmes in the field. My training gave me a deep grounding in person-centred theory, alongside a thorough understanding of how trauma, identity, and relational patterns shape the way we experience ourselves and the world.

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy), which means I work to the highest standards of ethics and professional practice. My membership is publicly verifiable on the BACP register.
